This first year for the convention is shaping up to be pretty spectacular, so I've been getting a little more excited every day!

I'll be there with a group of Oklahoma and Texas based comic creators, and I've got lots of new prints for sale there!

I recently returned from Planet ComiCon in Kansas City, and while I did extremely well selling my prints, the exciting news comes in the form of an amazing interview with Nick Lowe, senior X-Men editor over at Marvel Comics! He pointed how how he liked my storytelling and how well the pages I showed him flowed. He emailed me later with scripts I am now hard at work on, when I'm not working on tee designs, Godzilla murals and Nadir's Zenith #2.

Speaking of, Nadir's Zenith is doing rather well! Had a book signing at New World Comics in Oklahoma City, and despite looming tornado threats, I managed to sell really well that day! You can still get the comic online at this link:

It's very humbling to look at my DeviantArt this morning to find a ton of new watchers and many, many favourites of several of my works. Not quite sure where the sudden noticing of my stuff came from, but I just want to give you a quick THANK YOU for all the kind words and putting me on your DeviantWatch list! I have several new projects coming, the biggest is a sci-fi comic book series from local author Jackson Compton. Very excited about it and hope to show you some pages very soon!

Man, I love these contests DA gets to co-sponsor here! There's the Dr. Pepper mural one, and another one to create a faux movie poster (which is like a dream project for me!). And the prizes offered are amazing. Makes me want to enter every one that comes along!

The only problem is that I can't enter every one. Life gets in the way and I have so many other fun illustration projects that must take priority. That's the way it is. I wish I had DA when I was younger to showcase art, meet so many other like-minded creatives and talents, and enter all these awesome, major-prize filled contests!

I guess if there's anything to be gained by reading this, especially if you are a teenager or college student, it's that you should make the most of the opportunities when they come, take chances, and don't fear failure because it will come. Failure is something the human race should have adjusted to years and years ago, but it still keeps us from taking those chances to either have victory or learn something and be challenged to better yourself as you grow.

I've never liked the whole Nike "Just Do It" philosophy, but it most assuredly works in this instance.

Just do it.

I recently encouraged a deviant to fess up to the crime of blatantly referencing someone's art and calling it their own, and I did it in the nicest way possible. I even tried to encourage him, letting him know it looked like he had real talent and didn't need to do that. (I've seen other hacks steal others art and call it their own, and even their versions were crap.) He had responded to me to apologise and to let me know that he had apologised to the artist he referenced, and that he gave the appropriate credit to that artist, not realising the boo-boo he had made. He was just practicing and didn't give the proper credit to the artist. I completely understood that, and wanted to respond back to him and wish him all the best success.

That's when I find out he had blocked me from any posting, commenting, or even writing notes to him.

Yes, he has that right, and yes, he was probably burned by the mass criticizing he had to endure for the oopsie, but to block people, especially those who had his best interests in mind, tells me maybe he wasn't being completely honest with himself or us. There's an immaturity to this response, and it infuriated me.

This is me just griping, so whether this all makes logical sense wasn't the point. Just venting, and i wanted you to know about it.

If you reference someone's work, then give them credit. If you forget, prepare for the onslaught that is us defending us.

And if you make the mistake, fess up, fix it, and move on. Don't block us because you're afraid of similar repercussions arising again... unless you are foolhardy enough to do it again.

And if you are purposefully ripping off others, we will find you out and you will pay in blood. The artists here are sacrificing their own blood, sweat and tears to create and let you in on it. We don't go for your type here.
